July is a time for hiking, camping and enjoying the great outdoors – all things that Sugarloaf Ridge State Park was made for. On July 4, park leaders put the summer season into full gear with our Fourth of July Fireworks Hike, a perennial favorite for locals of all ages interested in settling in at the top of Bald Mountain for an evening of good food, glorious sunset views and fireworks displays in every direction. Like every year, the sold-out hike was a huge hit for local families.

But there’s still plenty of summer left to enjoy, so why not spend some of it camping with friends and family at Sugarloaf? Our clean and level campsites are situated in a large meadow bordered by a gurgling stream and a hillside forest, with Sugarloaf’s gorgeous peaks rising behind. This summer the camping experience got even better with our new tent rental program, allowing campers to arrive to a high-quality Marmot tent all set up for them (click the link for details).

The program is one more reason we believe Sugarloaf is the best place to camp in Sonoma County. (Do you agree? If so, please vote for Sugarloaf in the Press Democrat “Best Fun Living” poll!) We always have room on weekdays, and campers can call at 10 a.m. for same day reservations on weekends.

Meanwhile other exciting events are happening at Sugarloaf this month, such our two-evening, 60-person Latina Family Camping Trip from July 27 to 29. Sonoma Ecology Center (which manages Sugarloaf) is collaborating with La Luz, Vía Esperanza and Sonoma County Regional Parks to put together this fun gathering, a part of our Senderos Naturales bilingual program.
