Where to Go for Fresh Local Produce

With our normal shopping routines upended, many Sonoma Valley residents are wondering where are the best places to go right now for fresh, locally sourced produce. Below are a few suggestions. Remember to always shop safely and wash hands, work spaces and produce after you’re home. But also keep in mind that according to the FDA, “Currently there is no evidence of food or food packaging being associated with transmission of COVID-19.”

 

  • Farmers Markets: All Sonoma County Farmers Markets remain open at this time, and are arguably the best places to find a variety of locally grown fruits and vegetables. For a full list of farmers markets countywide, click here.
  • Sonoma Valley Certified Farmers Market: Sometimes called the best market in Sonoma County, this long-running farmers market carries fresh produce from several local farmers. It is open Fridays 9am-12:30pm at the Arnold Field parking lot, 241 West First St., Sonoma.
  • Valley of the Moon Farmers Market: Beginning May 7, this popular market is another great source of fresh produce from local farmers and growers. The evening market, held Tuesdays 5:30pm-dusk in Sonoma Plaza, is typically a place to socialize as well—but shoppers here and elsewhere are observing social distancing protocols for as long as necessary.
  • Paul’s Produce: This beloved Sonoma Valley grower sells produce at local farmers markets and occasionally at its farm stand at 19655 Arnold Drive (across from Brocco’s Old Barn).
  • Oak Hill Farm: Another local favorite, Oak Hill Farm is open Saturdays 9am-3pm at 15101 Sonoma Hwy in Glen Ellen.
  • Flatbed Farm: Also in Glen Ellen, Flatbed Farm is open Saturdays 10am-2pm at 13450 Sonoma Highway.
  • Imwalle Gardens: This fourth-generation family-run farm and produce shop at 685 West 3rd St. in Santa Rosa comes highly recommended for produce as well as vegetable starts. The store’s normal hours are Monday-Saturday 8:30am-5:15pm, Sunday 10am-4pm.
