DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the New Year with Sugarloaf Ridge State Park and California State Parks in this annual nationally-held hike! We’ll have two different routes to choose from: a Naturalist-guided\, 2-mile family hike\, or a 5.25 to 6.5-mile trek to Bald Mountain\, which includes a climb of 1\,500 feet and features fantastic 360-degree views of Sonoma Valley\, Napa Valley\, and San Francisco. The final routes will be determined the day-of by trail conditions.

DESCRIPTION:Join Sonoma Ecology Center\, Sonoma County Ag + Open Space\, and noted tracker and author Richard Vacha (The Heart of Tracking-Inner and Outer Practices of Nature Awareness) for a rare opportunity to explore the Keen Property landscape beyond Sky Farm. Meeting just a few miles from Sonoma Plaza\, we will wander the winter bay laurel woods in search of clues and climb the Sonoma Volcanics of the Mayacamas to glimpse evidence of the species who call this region home. On this outing you’ll learn to practice deep nature awareness and investigate signs and tracks from an expert naturalist. This outing is recommended for advanced and experienced hikers as it includes some steep terrain and scrabbling paths.

DESCRIPTION:Join Sonoma Ecology Center and Sonoma County Ag + Open Space for a gentle\, guided Forest Bathing Walk with Susan Karle at Sonoma Garden Park. This event is inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin Yoku\, which means “forest bathing.” Forest Bathing is the intentional practice of slowing down and immersing oneself in the sights\, sounds\, smells\, and sensations of the natural world in order to restore wellbeing and deepen our relationship with nature. While walking at a relaxed pace and seated\, a series of guided invitations will awaken the senses bringing personal connection to the land.

SUMMARY:Montini Walk with Local Biologist: Explore Plant Communities
DESCRIPTION:Join Sonoma Ecology Center\, in partnership with Sonoma County Ag + Open Space\, to explore the different plant communities in Montini Open Space Preserve with us! This walk will be led by retired field botanist Greg Perrier. The walk will include discussion of management concerns\, and the factors that control the distribution of the community within the preserve. On this hike\, you will see the emergence of the herbaceous vegetation and how it varies by site. Hikers will also examine the return of vegetation to areas that burned during the June 2025 prescribed burn\, conducted by Sonoma Valley Fire District in collaboration with Sonoma Ecology Center.
