Winter Pruning Workshop @ Sonoma Garden Park

When it comes to keeping fruit trees healthy and strong, proper pruning is key. Get hands-on experience and training in the art of winter tree pruning at this Jan. 19 workshop at Sonoma Garden Park, led by expert gardener and Santa Rosa Junior College instructor Wendy Krupnick.

This workshop provides a great experience for new and seasoned gardeners who want to get their hands working while they learn. We have apple, peach, fig and other trees that will be looked at and worked on in this always-popular workshop. Tickets are $15 for members or $20 for non-members.

As a staff member of the SRJC Agriculture and Natural Resources Department, Wendy coordinated the renowned Shone Farm garden from 2000 to 2007 while also teaching sustainable agriculture classes. Her training in organic farming dates back to her schooling at UC Santa Cruz, where she graduated with a degree in biology. She’s been working on organic farms and garden projects ever since, including 10 years managing variety trials for Shepherd’s Garden Seed Company and 10 years at the Felton Farmers Market. Wendy remains active with the Community Alliance with Family Farmers, the Sonoma County Food System Alliance and other organizations, and will be conducting organic apple production at Shone Farm through this year’s spring semester.

Attendees to the Jan. 19 workshop will be working with pruners and pruning shears. Tools and gloves are provided, but gardeners with personal favorite shears are encouraged to bring them.
