Following a great community response last week and request for more help, Sonoma Ecology Center is holding two more Toxic Runoff Containment Workshops on Friday, Nov. 20 and Monday, Nov 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We again invite all residents of the Mark West Watershed who are in need to come pick up free wattles and stakes at our staging area, located at 5240 St. Helena Road (directions below).

Sonoma Ecology Center staff and community members will be on hand to provide instruction on how to properly install wattles so that they are effective in stopping toxic ash and debris from being washed into nearby waterways. (See this Press Democrat video of SEC’s Bruce Hall demonstrating good wattling technique. For more on our workshops and what SEC and other groups are doing to stop toxic runoff, see this recent article in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.)

For questions, please contact us at firerecovery@sonomaecologycenter.org.

Directions to 5240 St. Helena Road
Google Maps link to location: https://goo.gl/maps/aJZziSpTWDcszvkj7
The address will point you to the main driveway (it is a large property). Do not enter here. Instead enter the newer driveway marked with orange traffic cones and a sandwich board with SEC signage “Toxic Runoff Containment Workshops.”

PLEASE NOTE
• We will need a signed access form with your name and address so that we can return at a later date to check and make sure the wattles were installed correctly.
• Materials will be provided at no expense to the homeowners, but only while supplies last.
• All attendees must wear a mask and maintain safe physical distancing (6’ or more), as much as possible, at this outdoor event. Sanitizer will be available at the sign-in table.
• Wattles are cumbersome and heavy (especially when wet). Please do not attempt to lift wattles and other materials on your own. To protect your backs and lift safely, wait for assistance from SEC staff and volunteers.
