Sonoma Ecology Center presents High Country, an award-winning feature-length documentary by local filmmaker Conor Hagen. Focusing on a small town in Colorado, High Country tells a tale of community and conservation, themes central to Sonoma Valley’s future. This is a film about how if you don’t take care of a place you risk losing it forever.

Join us on June 3rd at Sebastiani Theater. Doors open at 6:00 pm. Wine provided by Winery Sixteen 600 and Scribe Winery. The film will start at 6:30 pm followed by a Q&A and panel discussion on the challenges Sonoma Valley currently faces like the future of Sonoma Development Center, housing affordability and environmental conservation. Tickets are $20 per person.

Our panelists are:

  • Conor Hagen (filmmaker) is a native of Crested Butte, Colorado. He grew up in New Mexico and now lives in Kenwood. High Country, a documentary about his hometown, is Conor’s passion project that he worked on for over six years. After screening multiple films at festivals across the United States, Conor is creating new short films and other projects.
  • Sam Coturri is the founder of Winery Sixteen 600, continuing a multi-generational biodynamic wine growing and making community in Sonoma Valley, and member of the Sonoma Valley Collaborative Council.
  • Betzy Chavez is the co-chair of the Community Development Commission, board member of Community Action Partnership, Picazo Family Brands team member, and advocate for youth and the Hispanic population of Sonoma County.
  • Arthur Dawson is a historical ecologist, author of many best-selling local books and chair of the North Valley Municipal Advisory Council.

Panel moderator: Caitlin Cornwall, project director of Sonoma Valley Collaborative, a cross-sector coalition of Sonoma Valley leaders tackling our community’s biggest challenges together.

The event will follow public health authorities’ COVID recommendations. We strongly encourage everyone to wear a mask inside the theater to protect attendees and presenters.
