Sonoma Ecology Center’s Summer Wizarding Academy returns to Sonoma Garden Park! In 3 sessions, Ages 8-12 will follow PPP and mandated safe practices in the wide-open outdoors of the gardens and oak woodland glen.

Kids will thrill while learning with Potions and Particles-using solar ovens, cooking, plant potions/teas (all individually created and consumed); Craft Creations with clay, beads, nature collage; Visual and Performing Arts- acting, costume and scene design, dueling; Games and Book Nook round-robin readings.

Wizarding Camp activities will vary and each includes plenty of time in the imaginary world of the Fig Forest and Red Tail Glen.

SEC educators Julia Megna and Jonny Ehlers collectively have many decades of teaching environmental studies and leading children and adults in nature. They are trained in safety protocols and facilitate positive interactions and communication between children.

*We look forward to joining together in person and engaging with youth once again, off-screen and in-nature. However, given the uncertainties of our public health guidelines, our camps will be continually evolving. We will abide but whatever our scientists and medical experts deem as safe for in-person meetings when the camps start this summer. At this time we are limiting the sign-ups for this camp to no more than 15 participants.

 6/14 Serpentine Stone Camp

What are rocks made of? Serpentine, like other gemstones, are magic from deep in the earth, they are mineral flowers, blossomed in the dark. This week, campers will work as scientists with potions and particles, solar ovens, infusions, and more. (All individually created and consumed). We’ll explore how living soil creates nutrients for the garden by making compost and discover the fine line between states of matter. From garden harvests to craft creations and games, Serpentine Stone week will rock your wizardly world!

 6/28 Obsidian Owl Camp

Grandmother Oak and her residents await, let us enter the glen to explore! This is an expansive week of adventures, from scavenger hunts and sports to sketching creatures, journaling, and wilderness games. Campers will use the tools of naturalists to hone their skills and build collection boxes. Collaboration and teamwork are accented on the week’s journey to solve the mystery of the Obsidian Owl.

7/12  Phoenix Crystal Camp

The Crystal Phoenix Camp invites wizards and creatures to don costumes and set the stage for a week of visual and performing arts. Along with natural science, the magic of acting, costume, prop and scene design, dance, and dueling will transform us into a world of characters. Campers will use pre-written scripts and develop original scenes and works to perform. We’ll stay cool in the fig forest with games and Book Nook round-robin readings. The week will end with a performance by the Crystal Phoenix Players!
