Join Sonoma Ecology Center staff in watching the land rebound on Sonoma Developmental Center property, part of which burned in the October wildfires. We will be looking for special “fire follower” wildflowers, assessing burned trees, learning how to interpret fire-affected landscapes, and discussing questions such as: Why did this happen? What does it mean? How do we prepare for it happening again?

This is a moderate walk with some brushy areas. Please bring appropriate clothing including long pants and sturdy footwear, a hat or sunscreen, and plenty of water. The outing will be postponed in the instance of heavy rain.

Sonoma Ecology Center’s Fire Recovery Walk series is free of charge, though spaces may fill up quickly. To register go to https://firerecoverywalkseries.brownpapertickets.com. Participants will meet at Sonoma Ecology Center’s office in the Sonoma Developmental Center near Glen Ellen. Directions will be provided upon registration.

The series is partially paid for by our Sonoma Valley Ecological Fire Relief Fund. Donations to this fund – dedicated to fire education, active response and prevention – are gratefully accepted! To donate go to https://www.sonomaecologycenter.org/sonoma-valley-fires-fund/.
