Have you heard the buzz about biochar, and how by using this special form of charcoal you can improve your garden’s soil while also helping to address climate change?

Learn why you should be using this amazing soil amendment, how you can make it yourself or where you can purchase it, why it is important to blend it with nutrients before using it, and how to apply it. Weather permitting we will do a small “conservation burn” – a cleaner pile-burning technique that also produces biochar. This 1.5-hour workshop will teach you what you need to know to improve your garden using this “coral of the soil.”

This workshop is taught by Raymond Baltar, Sonoma Ecology Center’s Biochar Projects Manager and Director of the Sonoma Biochar Initiative. Tickets are $20 per person.

Please note the workshop will be canceled in the event of a Spare the Air day.
