CANCELED: Sonoma Mountain Ridgeline Hike

This rare Ag + Open Space District hike allows participants to enjoy a point-to-point hike from East Slope to North Sonoma Mountain Trail along the Sonoma Mountain Ridgeline, offering some spectacular views of the Valley of the Moon and San Pablo Bay.

The hike will traverse the Bay Area Ridge Trail starting just before the Eliot Family Loop Trail located on the east side of Sonoma Mountain, on a privately owned property forever protected through a conservation easement donated to the Ag + Open Space District. The Ridge Trail heads north, passes through forests and grasslands on the eastern and northern flanks of Sonoma Mountain, then descends via a well-designed narrow trail through beautiful oak woodlands to North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park.

At the start of the day, hikers will arrive at North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park at 7:30 a.m. to park and shuttle to the trailhead. The shuttle takes approximately 45 minutes to arrive at the end of Grove Street at the Eliot Property. We will ascend from the property to the Eliot Family loop and into the Ag + Open Space East Slope Trail for some of the incredible views during the morning phase of the hike. Entering Jack London State Historic Park, we’ll stop for a lunch break at a scenic stop. We intend to arrive back at our vehicles no later than 2:30 p.m.

This is a strenuous hike with some steep ascents and descents. We will hike approximately 9 miles, and there is some elevation gain and uneven footing. There is no charge for this outing, which is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who fund the work of Ag + Open Space with a quarter-cent sales tax.
